The Ghaziabad police on Monday lodged an FIR after a low intensity explosion injured seven persons in the weekly market in Vaishali late Sunday night. The investigators have so far failed to make any headway in the case.
The police on Monday registered the FIR at Indirapuram police station against unidentified persons under the provisions of the Explosives Act.
According to the FIR, the seven sustained injuries, mostly in their legs. Those injured were identified as Mahesh Chandra, Urmila Yadav, Gita Negi, Bina Rawat, Sahil Rawat and Shivani Rawat. All the six injured are from Sector 2 in Vaishali while the seventh person was identified as Kumari Urmila Yadav from Sector 5.
Following the incident, the forensic and field unit teams also rushed to the spot to collect evidence but they could not find any remains of the substance that triggered the blast. However, sources said the clothes of the injured persons are under the possession of the police for further forensic investigation.
“I had come to the market to buy some vegetables and I heard an explosion. I could not sense anything for 1-2 minutes. There was no smell of any substance. Then I felt something in my legs and it was blood,” said one of the injured.
The victims suffered injuries due to fly-away splinters from the blast.
“To ascertain the material used, we have collected samples from the blast site. The samples have been sent for testing to Agra forensic laboratory and reports are awaited. Those injured were rushed to a hospital and were given medical aid. We are also keeping a watch on suspicious elements and trying to trace the origin of the explosive substance,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city).
At the time of the incident, hundreds of residents were present in the market and panicked shoppers rushed to their homes soon after the explosion.
