Kin of SP’s reader held in Bihar’s Kaimur district for extortion demand to cops – Hindustan Times

The man who had allegedly sent extortion text messages to police officers and a people’s representative in Bihar’s Kaimur district turned out to be the relative of an employee posted in the office of the superintendent of police (SP).

Accused Arvind Kumar Singh, nephew of Kaimur SP’s confidential reader Pawan Singh, was arrested on Sunday after the police cracked the case through electronic surveillance.

Police said the SIM card used for sending extortion threats was issued to a woman, whose brother was working as supervisor of a private security agency engaged by an insurance company at Ramgarh, 29 km from Bhabua, headquarters of Kaimur district in south west Bihar.

During investigation, it was found that Arvind Kumar Singh, who was deputed by the security agency as guard at the insurance firm, had used the phone of his supervisor to teach him a lesson.

“Arvind was a habitual late comer and his supervisor Abhimanyu Kumar often scolded him for reporting late for duty. He decided to teach his supervisor a lesson after Kumar brought the matter to the notice of security agency’s officers,” the police said.

Kaimur SP Harpreet Kaur said Arvind Kumar Singh had confessed to his crime. He had been arrested and sent to jail, she added.

The police had swung into action after SP’s confidential reader Pawan Singh and district board member from Chand block Chanchal Mishra received messages demanding Rs 1 lakh as extortion money on September 27.

Again on September 30, station house officers of Bhagwanpur and Chandramani received similar text messages.
