Kanhaiya Kumar Likely to be CPI Candidate From Begusarai in 2019 Lok Sabha Polls – India.com

Patna, October 30: Former President of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union Kanhaiya Kumar will fight 2019 Lok Sabha elections on Communist Party of India (CPI) ticket. Claiming that Kanhaiya has agreed to it, CPI said he is likely to contest from Begusarai constituency in Bihar.

Kanhaiya has the offer to contest the next general elections from Kerala but the Bihar party unit has demanded that he should contest from here, CPI national council secretary KR Naraina told mediapersons after two-day party meeting in Patna, NDTV reported.

It is believed that if Kanhaiya enters the fray from Begusarai, then it would be a neck-and-neck fight as the BJP has won the last two elections from the seat by a small margin. Moreover, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad might back Kanhaiya’s candidature, thus, making it difficult for the BJP to retain the seat.

Left parties have said that Kanhaiya has already started preparations for the elections and has toured various areas of the region. While the party is also mulling at Kanhaiya contesting from other seat, the final decision will be taken after discussion with other coalition parties. The CPI is keen on contesting the elections in alliance with the RJD and Congress.

The RJD has said it is difficult to agree with the Left parties on seat sharing but it might agree for a candidate like Kanhaiya Kumar.

Kanhaiya is from Bihat village in Barauni town, Begusarai.
