Involved in land dispute, two senior citizens jailed in Bihar for ‘robbing’ retired IAS officer – Hindustan Times

Two senior citizens were arrested and sent to jail in Bihar’s Supaul district, 250 km north east of Patna, for allegedly snatching cash and a gold chain at gun point from a retired IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre.

Accused Jivendra Thakur,70, and Amrendra Thakur,63, a retired school teacher, however, said they had been framed as complainant Jayshree Jha was involved in a land dispute with their family.

Jha, a resident of Morabadi in Bariatu police station area Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi and a native of Supaul, had lodged a case against Jivendra Thakur, Amrendra Thakur, Birendra Thakur alias Bhagwan Thakur,65, also a retired teacher, and two others, alleging that they committed the crime while she visited her agricultural land at Veena-Babhangawan village in the district last month.

In her FIR lregistered on April 24, Jha alleged that the five accused had accosted her and Jivendra Thakur whipped out a pistol, forcing her to part with Rs 7,370 cash she was carrying in her bag.

Another accused, Upendra Thakur alias Kumari Thakur, 52, snatched her gold chain, worth Rs 60,000, while others thrashed her and asked her to pay Rs 2 lakh per year as extortion.

Soon after the FIR was registered, the Supaul police arrested Jivendra Thakur and Amrendra Thakur and sent them to jail.

Villagers at Veena-Babhangawan are baffled as to how could senior citizens snatch cash and gold chain from her. They attributed the developments to a land row, which the police also do not dispute.

Relatives of the accused said that the police acted under influence of Jha. “How can a 70-year-old person loot cash and jewellery?” they asked.

Supaul superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Eklay said the FIR had also mentioned about land dispute and the alleged incident could have been a related to that. “She has nine bighas of land in the village. “The retired IAS officer has complained that the accused had been creating trouble there and cutting trees,” he added.
