Patna: The axe has fallen on two officials of the excise and prohibition department for their negligence in the Rohtas hooch tragedy which had claimed five lives.
Kishor Kumar Sah, the assistant commissioner, excise, and Rajkishore Prasad Singh, the excise inspector, have been suspended for dereliction of duty.
Rohtas district magistrate Animesh Kumar Parasar said: “Based on an initial probe, we have come to know that there was negligence on the part of the two officials and they have been suspended.” Nine police personnel have already been suspended in this connection. After the conclusion of Chhath on Friday, some villagers from Danwar Bihta had consumed spurious liquor. The villagers soon fell ill after consuming the liquor and later five died.
After Friday’s incident, the Rohtas police had been carrying out raids in different places. On Monday too, raids were conducted at various places.
Patna Zonal IG N.H. Khan said: “On Monday, raids were conducted at several places in Rohtas district. The police destroyed more than 30,000 litres of country-made liquor when it was being fermented. The police also seized 5,000 litres of country made liquor.” The police also arrested seven persons.
The Dalmia Nagar police of Rohtas district are also carrying out raids to arrest Jhabar Yadav, a criminal who off late has become a liquor smuggler.
