Gaya cops lodge FIR against cleric, patron – Times of India

GAYA: Police on Tuesday instituted a criminal case against self-styled cleric Arshad Mohsin and his patron Sarwar Khan under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting religion) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.

Khan is a resident of the White House Compound locality of the town. Khan, allegedly in defiance of the mosque committee order, coerced Imam Mohd Seraj into submission to facilitate Mohsin’s ascent to the sacred pulpit.

Mohsin subsequently delivered an allegedly provocative speech, accusing all schools of promoting crime, including rape, murder and immorality.

Gaya SP (city) Alok Kumar said the credentials of Mohsin and Khan were being scrutinised. The Gaya police may also contact the Gujarat police as Mohsin’s family, after living in Gujarat for the last several years, had only recently shifted to Gaya.

Mohsin and his patron also allegedly distributed pamphlets, exhorting Muslims to shun subjects like zoology, maths and chemistry as these subjects contained material that went against the basic tenets of Islam.

Mohsin also put up a ‘Say No to School’ hoarding and exhorted people to get their children enrolled in Assuffa, a non-formal institute imparting training in Turkish and other languages. The emphasis on Turkish language caused jitters to the security agencies as Turkey of late has been a hotbed of fundamentalism. The pamphlet said the “Turkish brothers need help”.

Police sources said raids were conducted in New Karimgunj and White House Compound localities on Tuesday to arrest Mohsin and Khan.
