Cops exchange fire with Reds in Banka, seize arms – Times of India – Times of India

BANKA: Security forces have recovered a cache of arms after an exchange of fire with Maoists in Naxal-hit region of Banka district.

The recovery was made from Karmatand forests of Anandpur police station area on the wee hours of Sunday.

Police sources said, during the search of the spot, one regular rifle, one pistol, three country-made revolvers, 169 live cartridges, several magazines of rifle, grenade, protective jackets, blankets besides Maoists literature were recovered, police said.

Sources said over 60 rounds of fire were exchanged between the security forces and the Maoists. According to police sources, the Maosits group led by Mantu Khaira and Prahlad Modi had taken shelter in the forest area and were planning aajor offensive which was foiled.

Drag marks and blood stains found at the spot indicate that several Maoists were injured in the encounter, but their colleagues managed to take them away from the spot.

Banka SP Rajiv Ranjan, who led the operation said, “On a tip-off about the Maoists taking shelter in Karmatand forest area, we soon formed a task force to counter their move. We will continue our operation till the Maoists surrenders or flee from the region.”
