The Valencia player had been tipped to make a deadline day move to Manchester City.
There had been speculation earlier in the day that the Blues wanted to bring the left-back to the Etihad Stadium, but Balague has moved quickly to quash those claims.
Writing on social media on Tuesday afternoon, the Spaniard said, “Gaya to City is a non-starter. Valencia insist they have had no offer from City and they won’t let him go in January anyway.”
Gaya has featured 18 times for Valencia so far this season and the 21-year-old has a total of 96 appearances for the La Liga club.
His countryman, City manager Pep Guardiola, will be well aware of him but if Balague is to be believed this is a rumour that should be quickly dismissed.
Transfer deadline day always throws up a few curveballs and the story linking Gaya to City appears to be nothing more than paper talk…at least for now.
City do need to sign defensive reinforcements in due course and they could do a lot worse than the talented youngster, but with a contract until the summer of 2020 the ball is firmly in Valencia’s court.
