At least 11 people were killed and 18 others injured in separate mishaps in Bihar`s Munger, Saran, Supaul, Kaimur, Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts today.
While four Chhath devotees were killed in Munger district, two people each were killed in Saran and Supaul districts and one person in Kaimur, Khagaria and Bhagapur districts.
A report from Munger quoting Jamalpur Police Superintendent (Rail) Shankar Jha said, Bhagalpur-Danapur Intercity Express running on UP line hit Chhath devotees when they were boarding a passenger train standing on down line at Adalpur Amari halt. He said, the express train ran over two Chhath devotees killing them on the spot as they could not see speeding express train approaching towards them due to poor visibility caused by heavy fog. He said two other women died when they were thrown out of the passenger train and fell into a water-filled ditch due to sudden jerk in train. Mr Jha said that the deceased had been identified as Geeta Devi, Beejo Devi, Rekha Devi and Anita Devi.
He said, the Chhath devotees were going to collect Ganga water in Munger when they were run over by the train. The injured women had been admitted to Munger Sadar Hospital. However, earlier report had put the toll at 5 which was later corrected as 4.MORE UNI DH AKM
